YVES SAINT LAURENT MUSEUM & MAJORELLE GARDENS
Marrakech has always been a destination for fashion and design lovers, both for inspiration and for spectacular photo shoots and film productions, much thanks to the beautiful weather and great light all year round.
Iconic designer Yves Saint Laurent first came to Marrakech in the early 1960s and immediately fell under the spell of the Red City with its magical Medina and exotic charm. He visited Marrakech frequently and the city became a source of inspiration for many of his collections. Together with his partner Pierre Bergé he bought and renovated several homes in Marrakech and following in their foot-steps the creative crowd and jet-setters of that time started to discover Marrakech too. The star architect Bill Willis designed stunning homes for many of them, here on the edge of the desert.
The beautiful Villa Oasis was one of the homes belonging to Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé in Marrakech. This landmark property is connected to the Majorelle Garden, the most visited tourist site in Morocco. Both properties are the original creation of French painter Jacques Majorelle (1886-1962) who dedicated his life to create these enchanting gardens and houses and kept the gardens open for the public. When Yves and Pierre bought the entire compound in 1980, they continued to honour the democracy principle keeping the Majorelle Gardens open for the public. Villa Oasis became the couple’s private home and they put their own mark on this iconic house with the help of architect Bill Willis, interior designer Jacques Grange and garden designer Madison Cox.
The Majorelle Garden continues to be the most visited site in Morocco while Villa Oasis, the private home of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé is only possible to visit by special invitation (the hotel Palais Aziza can help you to arrange such a unique visit).
In October 2017 the much-anticipated "Museé Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech" premiered and opened its stunning doors for the first time featuring an amazing exhibition of the designer’s collections and paying tribute to his life achievement. The opening of the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech followed the previous opening of another YSL museum in Paris and the two museums exchange collections and exhibitions frequently to showcase the designers work.
The museum is beautifully curated and features truly mind-blowing fashion and architecture. The museum also features a beautiful auditorium often hosts special exhibition and events that you might be lucky to catch during your visit. If you love fashion and history, it is a must-visit. The stunning Yves Saint Laurent Museum is designed by very talented Karl and Olivier of Studio KO. It is just breath-taking. The YSL museum is located right next to the Majorelle Garden so it is very easy and convenient to visit both sites at the same time.

Palais Aziza is a patron member of the 'Les amis de la fondation du Jardin Majorelle'. This membership allows their guests to jump the queues with VIP entry tickets and access to the Majorelle garden, the YSL museum and the Berber museum.
I was lucky enough to attend the grand opening of the YSL museum and it was a truly spectacular event. Make sure you stop by next time you are in Marrakech!
